How Collecting More Art By Women Can Change Culture
Women’s work only accounts for 21% of fine art. The world of Art Collection is a community that has helped define the tone of culture, giving voice to those whose work moves the world to connect and progress. With this kind of power comes the importance of increasing the diversity of voices. By creating more space for women to shine, we see how their breadth of perspective challenges their audiences growth — designed from their own experiences and beliefs, illustrated through mediums like paint, nature, technology, and community.
In creating space for Artists, we equally create space for collectors— showing both parties how their relationship can be cultivated together through attainability and scaleability.
Let’s talk about how we can dismantle what “Collectable” even means. The original structures of Collecting had forced women to being manipulated through what we are allowed to say or how we are allowed to behave. Collectors have been seen to be elitist, be setting their pricing to disclude others and create a large demand with little supply. (Did you know a piece of art has to be sold at $10,000, to be seen as “collectable” by current Fine Art standards?)
We Are All Stars wants to reverse engineer how we are taught to think:
Burgeoning Collectors: Anyway you put into an Artist makes you a Collector! Artists aim to bring their work to your Collection, so talk to them about options they have for smaller work or payment plans. As a Collector, you are creating community, pouring into your local economy and placing value on expression and voice. Bringing your Collection’s depth to light is vital in growing your Collection and sustaining the creative culture cultivated by community.
Artists with the Goal to grow into Collections: Remember, value is placed on the connection we have with what we create. Whoever has collected your work makes it valueable. By expanding the ways people can purchase and the scale of your work (to allow a wider range of attainable prices), your work’s breadth across greater communities cultivates your work’s worth.
By increasing Woman-Created Art in Collections, and growing the Female Art Collector Community, we create a more equitable platform for our shared goals of a sustainable society. Pouring into humanity starts by giving a voice to those whose voices aren’t present enough at the table, and at We Are All Stars, we aim to grow the change we wish to see in the world.
