Although Kevin Lewis Fougerousse is an idealist, his work often portrays the darker backbones of his world, showing us a layer of natural truth that is absent from far too many artists. Passion is never lost from his work, but instead, we are given a glimpse of his faith and his fervor. Whether you look at his lifelike skull motif, his abstract faces, or his bulls, he brings an almost child-like innocence into a darker subject matter.

  • Kevin Lewis Fougerousse

Although Kevin Lewis Fougerousse is an idealist, his work often portrays the darker backbones of his world, showing us a layer of natural truth that is absent from far too many artists. Passion is never lost from his work, but instead, we are given a glimpse of his faith and his fervor. Whether you look at his lifelike skull motif, his abstract faces, or his bulls, he brings an almost child-like innocence into a darker subject matter. His form drawings show such significant reality, creating an idea of the tangible within the elusive. With his extraordinary and impressionistic use of color, Fougerousse paints a brilliant chronicle of his life and his memories in a light that only he could envision. His existence is written in the brushstrokes, buried in layers on the canvas that we can only attempt to read. As with many artists, painting is a therapy for Fougerousse; however, his presentation sets him apart from any other. In whatever artistic endeavor, what he allows us to see is undeniably successful. Described by the artist as “a beauty birthed in decay,” his work thrives in the solitude that he allows himself, beckoning him and enabling him to create the compelling works that we now see. Unlike many others, this is much more than a pastime to Fougerousse. It has become a defining part of him, a compulsion that cannot and should not be silenced. Says Fougerousse, “If I am not creating, then I am dead.”
